Pupils Help Bring Forest School Area Back to Life

Community effort transforms overgrown space into a thriving outdoor learning environment.

On Wednesday, 10th June, pupils, staff and families came together to celebrate the official opening of the brand-new outdoor learning space. The event marked the culmination of months of hard work and community collaboration. Guests heard from Sheila Ward, Headteacher, who welcomed everyone to the event, Bill, Trustee of Aletheia Academies Trust; Adrian, Director of Education from the Trust; and Dave from the Heritage Centre, who shared a personal connection to Ditton, recalling that he had been a pupil at the school 73 years ago.

The celebration concluded with a blessing from Reverend Ross, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for outdoor learning at the school.

Headteacher Sheila Ward said: “We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved. This project has truly brought our school community together, with pupils, families, and volunteers all playing a part in creating a wonderful outdoor learning space. It is already making a real difference to our pupils, and we look forward to seeing it continue to flourish.”

The project would not have been possible without the financial support of Aletheia Academies Trust, which Ditton Church of England Junior School joined in November 2023. The trust’s investment has enabled the school to enhance its outdoor learning provision and create a lasting resource for future generations of pupils.
