Finance and Funding

Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium funding was launched by the Government in April 2011 in order to raise the attainment of pupils that may be vulnerable to underachievement, and close the gap between them and their peers. The funding is now allocated to children who are looked after by the local authority, those who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years, and for those children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

The money is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full potential, both academically and socially.

As a school, we decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and we are accountable for the use of the funds.  We have a responsibility to report on the progress of children receiving Pupil Premium and demonstrate how we are using the grant to have a positive impact.

Intent

At Ditton Junior School we use Pupil Premium funding to:

  • Provide teaching assistants to run interventions with individuals or small groups of pupils. This means that pupils who may need extra academic, social or emotional support receive appropriate provision.
  • Fund places at school clubs, including music tuition and swimming.
  • Meet contributions to the cost of school trips and residential trips to ensure equality of opportunity.
  • Subsidise the cost of equipment and resources to close the attainment gap by accelerating learning.

Attainment data is continually updated and reviewed at SLT meetings and Pupil Progress meetings, as well as being reported to the governing body. The key objective is to ensure that Pupil Premium Funding is used effectively to raise attainment and narrow the gap between pupil groups.

Sports Premium Funding

The Government provides funding to promote and develop additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of primary school PE and sports. It is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health & Culture, Media and Sport and goes directly to primary schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children in both the short term and long term.

This means that the Primary PE and Sport Premium is used to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that is already offered
  • build capacity and capability to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Swimming

Sports Premium funding is also used to support swimming. At Ditton, we complete our National Curriculum requirements for Swimming and Water Safety. Please see our results in our sports premium document.
