Ditton Commemorates the 80th Anniversary of VE Day
Ditton marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a day full of reflection, learning, and celebration. We began with a whole-school worship, where pupils explored the significance of Victory in Europe Day—both its historical importance in 1945 and its continuing relevance today.
Throughout the morning, some classes took part in a special online workshop focused on British Values. Pupils discussed key principles such as democracy and individual liberty, linking these ideas to both our school values and the context of VE Day. These thoughtful conversations helped deepen their understanding of how the freedoms we enjoy today were shaped by the sacrifices of the past.
In the afternoon, the school community gathered for a joyful ‘Street Party’ on the playground. With music from the Second World War playing, we shared in the spirit of unity and remembrance. Our school choir performed a beautiful song, and we paused together for a moving two-minute silence to honour those who served.
It was a memorable day that combined learning with heartfelt reflection, reminding us all of the enduring importance of peace, freedom, and community.
